MY POSSIBILITIES FOUNDER CHARMAINE SOLOMON NAMESAKE FOR ADULT TRANSITION CENTER

    Plano ISD honors local philanthropist

Oct. 15, 2019 – Plano, TX – On Thursday, Oct. 10 Plano Independent School District, along with city officials held the official unveiling of the naming rights to the Charmaine Solomon Adult Transition Center. In 2017, Plano ISD purchased 1631 Dorchester Drive from My Possibilities, in preparation for the Adult Transition Center or Solomon Center.

1631 Dorchester Drive served as the home to My Possibilities (MP) prior to the Campus for Higher Learning on Mapleshade Lane. MP provides continuing education, vocational training and job placement for adults with Intellectual and/or Developmental Disabilities (IDD.) Much like, MP, The Solomon Center provides vocational education for adults with IDD after high school graduation.

The evening began with remarks from Superintendent Sara Bonser, School Board President Tammy Richards, Plano City Council Member Kayci Prince, Adult Transition Center Director Shelley Crowder, and Honoree Charmaine Solomon; followed by the sign unveiling, self-guided facility tours and refreshments. The self-guided facility tours featured six different classrooms, showcasing the various work and programming The Solomon Center offers. During the tour, students explained the curriculum and skillsets taught within the various classrooms.

“What an absolute honor to receive such recognition,” said Solomon. “This journey all began with my son, Kyle, to find something sustainable for him once he left Plano ISD.”

“What a future our children have. What a privilege to have programming available such as the Adult Transition Center and My Possibilities,” said Solomon.
