    Recklessly Bold: Leslie’s Story

    By Barbara Boretsky | MP Blog | 0 comment | 6 February, 2017 | 11

Light pours through the window in rays and patches – illuminating rainbow-splattered palates and mason jars filled with soaking paintbrushes. It’s the afternoon session at My Possibilities and art class is in full swing.

Sitting at her small black chair, Leslie surveys the multitude of canvases stacked before her. Brush in hand she’s working on her second painting for the afternoon – a pointillist piece.

“Leslie came to us out of the blue,” Says Create Program Lead Casey Parrott. “When she came in, right off the bat, she was painting in ways that none of the other HIPsters could or would.”

Originally from another art program, staff knew very little about Leslie or her artistic talents when she first came to them six months ago. Able to pick up complex painting techniques on a whim, Leslie has become one of My Possibilities most prolific painters.

“She’s making two to three paintings a day here,” says Casey, “and she’s only here for two hours.”

While she has only been with My Possibilities for a short time- she’s already making big waves. One of her paintings, a floral piece, now hangs at Dr. Pepper Snapple Group’s Plano headquarters.

“I’m not sure how fully aware she is of her talent and ability,” Casey says, “I just know that she DEEPLY enjoys painting.”

In the past six months, Leslie estimates that she’s painted as many as twenty paintings- more than many people get to in a year – and she shows no signs of stopping.

“She’s the best salesman of her own work that I’ve ever met. I have a lot to learn from her about being so recklessly bold,” says Casey “I think she’s someone that could easily be in small galleries and exhibitions.”
